What a week!
It's bow season here, and David has been slipping off to the woods every chance he gets.
On Wed, he was supposed to have dinner with his boss but they decided to do lunch on Thurs instead.
SO, off to the woods he went.
About the time I was expecting to hear that he was on his way home - he called me.
He had fallen out of his tree stand.
Yes, he has the safety strap, and yes, he had used it.
But apparently, there's another part that you use as you're climbing up and down, into and out of it.
THAT was the part he forgot that day.
As he was coming down, he fell.
Another thing - I had NO idea where he was. Only a general idea of the vicinity of the land, he was hunting on.
I had to call Austin at work - because they are the only 2 that know where their stands are.
He had to immediately leave work (thank goodness they're understanding and nice).
I left Leila with Darrell and said - feed her something for dinner and do something with her!
We found David and took him to the ER.
When you fall more than 3 times your body length - it's considered a trama, and you get right in - no waiting (woohoo).
God was with him, because he had no major damage. Thank goodness.
At that point, we had 3 cars out and only 2 drivers. Austin and I worked them home little by little.
So after a VERY long evening, we all made it home about 12:30.
Thurs was Trick-or-Treat.
David made it out for that to watch Leila gather her loot.
But, Thurs night, he started bleeding.
On Fri morning, I took Leila to her preschool evaluation, and David headed back to the ER.
They admitted him for internal bleeding.
(Once again - 3 cars, 2 drivers.)
After running several tests, they're still not 100% sure where the blood was coming from, but it seems to be stopping.
They sent him home this afternoon with instructions to follow up with the dr on Mon.
We had cake and ice cream tonight for Leila and Darrell's birthdays.
Fortunately, David seems to make it home each time just in time for the important things - but I'm exhausted at this point.
Oh yeah, and his bow is totaled.
When he heard that - I had to keep reminding him of just how lucky he really was and of how much worse things could have been.
But the bow with all the sights and junk on it, is about $600-$800. And we just don't have that kind of money right now to replace it.
I'm sure he'll be even sadder once he feels better.

We actually began our adoption journey more than 10 years ago. I saw an ad in the newspaper about Chinese babies. We called about it, but it just wasn’t even feasible at that time in our life. All these years, it was always there, stuck somewhere in the back of our minds. I don't know why exactly – it just was. The thought never completely went away.
We also talked off and on about having another child. Our house was only 3 bedrooms, and we know the boys could have been in a room together, but we didn't want to do that if we didn't have to. In the spring of 2006, for some reason (I don't recall exactly what) - it came up again. We started thinking and talking - why not? So we started checking into it more. We did a lot of research online. The more we found out, the more we felt a calling, a desire and even a need to do this.
We started the adoption and added onto the house all at the same time. It took about 6 months to get the paperwork together. Then about another month after we sent it to China for them to translate it and 'log us in' (11/6/06). That's when we started to officially wait.
We finally got "THE CALL" on 7/13/08. It was a Sunday afternoon! After 2 ½ years, we are finally going to get our baby!

Leila Ann McBeath, formally known as Shun Xi Yi, was born on Oct 29, 2007. She had a cleft lip and cleft palate. The lip has been repaired, but not the palate. (We'll have to do that when we get her home.) She's in the Children's Welfare Institute of Shunde District of Foshan City, which is located in the Guangdong Province, in the southern part of China.
Shunde, the hometown of flowers, is one of four cities under the jurisdiction of Foshan City. Covering an area of 806 sq meters and with a population of 1.05 million, Shunde City is situated in the middle of the fertile Pearl River Delta, between Guangzhou and Hong Kong. It was set up as a county in the 3rd year (1452 AD) of the Jintai reign of the Ming Dynasy (1368-1644), and conferred with the administrative status of a city in 1992 by the State Council.
Foshan City is also where the actor Bruce Lee was from.

Oh. My. Goodness. Thank goodness David is getting better, and at least had the safety strap on... how awful. I bet he will be sadder about the bow once he recovers. We will pray for a full recovery, an affordable new bow-- and that he won't drive you crazy hanging around the house until he gets it ;).
I can't believe our girls are THREE! Is it just me or does time absolutely fly by these days??! We miss you all & I hope we can swing by (ha ha) one day soon.
Wow! Life certainly isn't boring at your house. Hopefully now things will settle down and get back to a more sane routine (hurray for normalcy!). On a serious note, we'll be praying for a full recovery for David and strength for you!
